Stages

  • Stage 1 : Tumor has invaded a submucosal layer along with seven to 15 lymph nodes, OR it has spread to subserosa with in ≤6 lymph nodes OR if cancer has affected the outermost stomach layer (serosa) without affecting any lymph node.
  • Stage 2 : Tumor affects the subserosa along with ≤15 lymph nodes OR cancer has spread to nearby organs without affecting any lymph nodes or distant organs.
  • Stage 3 : The tumor cells are present in the inner stomach layer and not elsewhere.
  • Stage 4 : Tumor has invaded >15 lymph nodes OR to nearby organs with ≥1 lymph node, OR cancer has spread to distant organs.
  • Stage 5 : The tumor has spread to the second stomach layer (submucosa) along with in ≤6 lymph nodes OR if cancer has spread to the muscular stomach layer (subserosa) without affecting any lymph node.
