Risk Factors

The risk factors for oropharyngeal cancer include:

  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Smoking or consuming any form of tobacco
  • Infection with HPV
  • Underlying genetic conditions, such as congenital dyskeratosis and Fanconi anemia.
  • History of head and neck cancer
  • History of undergoing radiation therapy for the treatment of head and neck cancer
