Risk Factors

The factors that increase the risk of chondrosarcomas are:

  • Advanced age: Although chondrosarcomas occur at any age, people over 50 years of age are at increased risk for developing chondrosarcoma.
  • Gender: Men are more likely to develop chondrosarcoma than women.
  • Underlying medical conditions: Patients with underlying medical conditions, such as Ollier's disease, multiple hereditary exostoses, Maffucci's syndrome, enchondromas, and Li-Fraumeni syndrome, are at increased risk of chondrosarcomas.
