Thyroid Tumour

Prevention

There is no method to prevent thyroid cancer. However, the risk of thyroid cancer can be reduced through the following measures:

  • Genetic testing: Genetic testing may be performed on a certain individual with an inherited gene that increases the risk of thyroid cancer. Such individuals may undergo prophylactic thyroidectomy.
  • Medications: People living within a radius of 10 miles from a nuclear power plant may be prescribed potassium iodide to lower the risk of thyroid cancer.
