Calicut, 17th May 2024 – American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Calicut is pleased to announce the successful treatment of a 22-year-old male patient diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in the right temporal lobe of the brain. This remarkable achievement underscores AOI’s commitment to providing advanced and comprehensive care to patients with complex medical conditions.
The patient initially presented with symptoms of headache, vomiting, heaviness over the right side of the head, and visual disturbances. During the examination, it was noticed that both sides of the optic nerve were swollen early, and there were early visual field defects on both sides. Further evaluation through MRI scans revealed an ill-defined solid-cystic lesion with necrotic areas and severe surrounding edema in the white matter of the right temporal lobe.

Under the expert care of AOI’s multidisciplinary team, the patient had surgery to remove a brain tumor located in the right temporal area. During the operation, it was discovered that the tumor originated from the tissue covering the brain. After examining the tumor under a microscope, it was confirmed to be Ewing sarcoma, a type of cancer characterized by clusters of cells with small, round nuclei and clear cytoplasm. Following surgery, the patient received radiation therapy with Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) technique. Additionally, adjuvant chemotherapy was administered to further target the cancer cells.
