Jalandhar, Sept 03, 2024: American Oncology Institute (AOI) at Shrimann Super Speciality Hospital in Jalandhar is proud to announce a significant milestone in the treatment of advanced cervical cancer. Mrs. Harmeet Kaur (name changed) a 65-year-old woman with a history of rheumatic heart disease, has shown a remarkable response to a comprehensive treatment regimen for cervical cancer, highlighting AOI’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge cancer care.
Mrs. Kaur presented with lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, and imaging revealed a large cervical mass infiltrating the tissues on both sides of the cervix. A biopsy confirmed the presence of squamous cell carcinoma. Despite the challenging diagnosis, Mrs. Kaur underwent a rigorous treatment plan, including External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT) in combination with Intracavitary Brachytherapy (ICBT). The combination of EBRT and ICBT leverages the strengths of both methods. EBRT covers a larger area to ensure comprehensive treatment of the primary tumor and any potential microscopic disease, while ICBT delivers a high dose of localized radiation to the tumor itself.
Harish Trivedi, CEO of CTSI - South Asia, said, "The success of Mrs. Kaur's treatment highlights the importance of access to quality cancer care in our region. AOI continues to set new benchmarks in oncology treatment, and we are committed to expanding these life-saving services to more patients across South Asia. Mrs. Kaur's case is not just a success story but a beacon of hope for many others battling cancer."
Dr Rahul Lal Chodhary, MD Radiation, AOI Jalandhar, said, "Mrs. Kaur's case was particularly challenging due to the size and extent of the tumor and her pre-existing heart conditions. Our multidisciplinary team worked meticulously to tailor a treatment plan that would be both effective and safe for her. The combination of external beam radiation and intracavitary brachytherapy has proven highly effective, as evidenced by her follow-up MRI scans showing complete disease absence. This outcome is a testament to the advanced therapeutic options available at AOI and underscores our commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for our patients."
Dr Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional Chief Operating Officer, AOI Jalandhar, added, "This case exemplifies the exceptional care and advanced treatment protocols that AOI provides. Mrs. Kaur's successful response to the treatment reflects our dedication to utilizing the latest technology and expertise in oncology. We are incredibly proud of our team’s efforts and the positive impact on our patients' lives."
At her 3-month follow-up, Mrs. Kaur’s MRI scans revealed a complete absence of disease, highlighting the effectiveness of her treatment protocol. This positive outcome serves as an inspiring example for patients facing similar challenges and reinforces AOI’s mission to provide world-class cancer care.
