Yoga and Meditation for Cancer Patients: Do They Really Help?

Yoga and meditation have become increasingly common recommendations for people going through cancer treatment, offered at many major cancer centers alongside conventional medical care rather than as an alternative to it. The appeal is easy to understand: a cancer diagnosis brings physical strain, emotional upheaval, and disrupted sleep all at once, and practices aimed at calming the nervous system and gently engaging the body sound like a natural complement to a difficult treatment course.

The more useful question is not whether these practices feel pleasant, which many patients report that they do, but what the actual research shows about their measurable benefits, and where the evidence is more limited or mixed.
