Gallbladder cancer is one of the most aggressive cancers affecting the digestive system. Although it is relatively uncommon worldwide, certain regions, particularly North India, report significantly higher incidence rates. States such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, and parts of Delhi have consistently shown some of the highest rates of gallbladder cancer globally.
The reasons behind this geographical concentration are complex and multifactorial. Researchers believe that a combination of environmental exposures, lifestyle factors, chronic infections, dietary habits, genetic susceptibility, and gallstone disease contributes to the increased burden of gallbladder cancer in North India.
