Vaginal Cancer: Rare Symptoms Every Woman Should Know

Vaginal cancer is one of the rarest gynecologic cancers, accounting for a small fraction of all cancers affecting the female reproductive system. Its rarity means it receives relatively little public attention compared with cervical, ovarian, or uterine cancer, yet its symptoms, when they occur, are often noticeable and worth acting on rather than dismissing out of embarrassment or the assumption that they must be something minor.

Because vaginal cancer is uncommon, many cases that do get diagnosed are found in older women, and a majority are linked to persistent infection with human papillomavirus (HPV), the same virus responsible for most cervical cancers, which places vaginal cancer within a broader family of HPV-related gynecologic cancers that share overlapping prevention strategies.
