Radiation therapy is one of the key treatment methods used in modern cancer care. It uses carefully measured doses of high-energy rays or particles to damage the DNA inside cancer cells. Once the DNA is damaged, these cells lose their ability to grow and divide and eventually die. Nearby normal cells can also be affected, but they usually repair themselves better, which allows doctors to use radiation therapy for cancer in a controlled and safe way.
