Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is one of the most common types of cancer in the world, and in India it accounts for a large share of cancers of the mouth, throat, oesophagus and cervix. The name can sound technical, but the concept is simple. SCC is cancer that begins in squamous cells, the thin, flat cells that line many surfaces of the body. Because these cells are found in so many places, SCC can develop in a wide range of organs.
