Liver is an important organ in the human body and helps in the removal of toxic substances from the blood and in the digestion of food. Liver cancer is characterized as cancer that develops in the liver. It can be further divided into two subtypes: hepatocellular carcinoma (the most common type of liver cancer which originates from the liver cells called hepatocytes) and cholangiocarcinoma (cancer originating in the bile ducts, which are tubes that carry bile from the liver and gall bladder to the small intestine).
