Like in any other places in the country, cancer incidences among women in Hyderabad and Telangana are on the rise. As per Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR), as high as 2,400 fresh cancer cases are reported in Hyderabad every year with breast cancer topping the lip followed by cervical cancer. Other reports indicate that for every 1,000 women in the city of Hyderabad aged between 35 and 65 years, at least one woman is suffering from breast cancer but is not aware about the disease.
At the state level, cervical cancer beats breast cancer to be the number one killer. For the twin states, more than 2000 cases of cervical cancers are reported at advanced stages when treatment becomes very difficult and highly expensive.
As part of our #beatingcancerinwomen cancer awareness initiative, we have launched the program in Hyderabad to build awareness among women about rising cancer incidences in women, its prevention and how early detection of cancer may lead to successful survival and cure.
Our press launch on 04 October 2017, was great success with Sri Bhanwar Lal, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer & Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to Govt. kicking off the launch by unveiling the logo for the initiative. Senior city gynecologist Dr. L Fahmida Banu also attended the function amidst excellent gathering of media personnel. We will follow this up with several on-ground, print and digital activities over the course of the next month. Keep checking back for updates!
We invite you to join the initiative and spread the awareness about cancer in women to safeguard our women. Please share comments below in supporting the initiative.
