Mr and Mrs ….. considered themselves lucky when the lady conceived for the first time at the age of 42 years. More so, because the couple was not hopeful of experiencing parenthood owing to their late marriage. The news of pregnancy left them happier than ever but the celebration did not last very long as the lady was detected with a breast lump during her 16th week of pregnancy. Initially, she overlooked it, but after the lump in her breast was found to be cancerous, the anxious visits to the hospital started.

The patient was operated on in a city hospital and then came the real test as the tumor demanded chemotherapy to save both mother and the child.

Therefore, she was referred to the Department of Medical Oncology at Babina Cancer Hospital, American Oncology Institute Imphal where Dr (Brig) Anil Kumar Dhar and his team took the charge to treat the patient. They answered all their queries and explained to them how they would safely administer chemotherapy under strict monitoring of both mother and foetus.

As part of her treatment, the lady underwent four cycles of chemotherapy successfully which controlled her cancer. The team of Babina Cancer Hospital took extra care of the patient’s safety and a healthy male baby was delivered by Caesarian Section in the second week of January 2022. Thus, two lives of the mother and her baby were saved by the team of doctors and nurses at Babina Cancer Hospital, Imphal.

The couple said that they feel really fortunate that they were able to be at the best facility, with the best doctors and staff.
