Coimbatore, 08th Jul 2024: American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Coimbatore has achieved a significant milestone in the treatment of advanced breast cancer with a successful case of multidisciplinary management resulting in improved quality of life for a 45-year-old female patient.
The patient, who initially presented with severe pain in her back due to metastatic bone disease from untreated breast cancer, was admitted to AOI where a comprehensive evaluation led by Dr Anbu C, Radiation Oncologist at AOI, revealed extensive metastasis including the spine, shoulder, and other vital areas. The case was complicated by the advanced stage of the disease, with significant impact on the patient's mobility and daily life.
Dr Anbu commented, "Upon evaluation, the patient's condition necessitated a carefully tailored treatment plan combining palliative radiation therapy and subsequent chemotherapy to address both localized and systemic manifestations of the cancer. Our primary goal was pain relief and improvement in quality of life."
The patient underwent a successful course of palliative radiation therapy, administered over five days, resulting in remarkable pain reduction by 75% and significant improvement in lower limb strength. This intervention not only alleviated her suffering but also enabled her to regain mobility and resume daily activities. Following radiation therapy, the patient was transitioned to palliative chemotherapy under the expert guidance of our multidisciplinary team, further enhancing her treatment outcomes.
Harish Trivedi, CEO of CTSI - South Asia, stated, "This case exemplifies AOI's commitment to providing comprehensive, patient-centric care leveraging advanced treatment modalities. We are pleased with the positive outcome achieved through our collaborative approach and dedication to improving patient outcomes."
The successful management of this case highlights AOI's leadership in oncology care, reaffirming its role in delivering compassionate and effective treatment solutions to patients facing complex cancer diagnoses.
