Jammu, 27th Feb 2024 – American Oncology Institute (AOI) Jammu has achieved success in two intricate esophageal surgeries, showcasing the hospital's dedication to advanced surgical procedures and patient well-being. In the first case, a 40-year-old man with advanced esophageal cancer underwent surgery after prior chemotherapy and radiation. Despite treatment, the tumor stayed and affected the protective layer around the heart and the fatty tissue near the right chamber of the heart. The surgery effectively removed the tumor and repaired the pericardium, leading to a successful recovery and discharge within 7 days.
The second case involved 65 yrs old woman with locally advanced esophageal cancer. Patient received chemo radiation first. The tumour was stuck to left bronchus. The tumour was removed successfully. There was rent in the left bronchus. The repair of left bronchus posed a challenge as the right lung was already deflated. The repair was successfully done with meticulous and collaborative efforts of surgery and anesthesia team with reinforcement by intercostal pedicled muscle flap.
