Jammu, 18th April 2024 – American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Jammu has successfully treated a 56-year-old male patient suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage V, who was diagnosed with Cancer of the Tongue. Despite the challenges posed by his medical condition, the patient underwent a complex surgical procedure and has made a remarkable recovery.
The patient, who was on weekly dialysis for CKD, presented with a growth on his tongue. Following a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, the medical team at AOI in Jammu determined that the growth was cancerous. Despite the patient's elevated S. creatinine levels, the anesthesia team cleared him for surgery, recognizing the high risk involved.
The surgical procedure involved the removal of the cancerous portion of the tongue, along with the bilateral removal of neck nodes. Additionally, reconstruction of the tongue defect was successfully performed during the same surgical setting. Following the surgery, the patient underwent multiple sessions of haemodialysis to manage his kidney condition.
Despite the complexity of the procedure and the patient's underlying health issues, he made a remarkable recovery. After one week of post-operative care, the patient was discharged from AOI. He is now able to speak and swallow with ease, marking a significant improvement in his quality of life.
