Jammu, 20th Sept 2023: American Oncology Institute (AOI) Jammu performs a rare surgical achievement – the successful removal of a complex intestinal tumor from an elderly female patient. The 70-year-old female sought medical attention with complaints of abdominal pain and black-colored stools. Upon evaluation, the medical team at AOI discovered a tumor in her small intestine, which was causing bleeding. Considering the age, the patient needed immediate medical attention and was scheduled for surgery.
During the surgical procedure, it was revealed that the tumor had originated from the ileum, the distal part of the small intestine. Remarkably, the tumor was intertwined with the uterus and part of the urinary bladder. Overcoming this complex scenario required meticulous dissection and surgical expertise. The primary challenge was to remove the tumor while preserving the remainder of the bladder, including both ureter openings, which was successfully achieved.

The patient's recovery post-surgery was remarkable, and she was discharged after just five days. She is currently undergoing follow-up care and has commenced chemotherapy. Additionally, her catheter has been removed, and she is now able to pass urine comfortably.
