A cancer that forms in the tissues of the ovary is termed as Ovarian Cancer. The ovaries are a pair of female reproductive glands located in the pelvis where eggs or ova are produced. Another function of the ovaries includes producing the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone.
Epithelial carcinoma and malignant germ cell tumors are the two main types of cancer that can arise in the ovaries. Epithelial carcinoma is the most common ovarian cancer where cancerous cells form on the surface of the ovary. Malignant germ cell tumors originate within the egg cells.
