Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out-of-control cell growth. Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread throughout the body via the blood and lymph systems. When cancer cells move from their point of origin and invade other parts of the body, the process is referred to as metastasis.
There are over 200 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected. The body will be harmed by cancer when the body cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps called as tumor. Tumors can grow and interfere with body organs and release hormones which alters body functions.
Cancer cells are in place where they started and have not spread at all
Cancer is now small and has only spread a little into nearby tissues. It has not spread to any lymph nodes or other body areas.
Stage 2 & 3
Cancer is now larger or has spread into nearby tissues or lymph nodes.
Disease has spread to other areas of the body. This stage is also called metastatic cancer or advanced cancer.
Stage of advancement as well as the type of cancer determines the effectiveness of the treatment. Before deciding on a treatment plan our expert team of doctors determines the stage of the disease by careful assessment carried out by simple evaluation or advanced diagnostic procedures on a case-to-case basis. Once the stage of the cancer is determined doctors at American Oncology Institute prepares a customized treatment plan suitable to that particular cancer type.
