Condition of multiple myeloma is diagnosed with certain tests and procedures which include:
- Blood tests:Myeloma cells produces abnormal proteins like M proteins, beta-2-microglobulin and presence of this in blood hints towards the existence of the disease. Also, Blood tests to asses functioning of kidney’s, calcium levels and uric acid levels can give clues about diagnosis of Multiple myeloma.
- Urine tests.Urine analysis may reveal presence of M proteins, which are referred to as Bence Jones proteins when detected in urine help in diagnosis of disease
- Examination of your bone marrow:Analysis of a sample of bone marrow may offer insights into different blood disorders. Specialized tests, such as fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) are done to analyze Myeloma cells and associated genetic abnormalities
- Imaging tests.Imaging tests like X-ray, MRI, CT or positron emission tomography (PET) may be recommended by the doctor for diagnosis of the disease
