Oral Cancer

Oral cancer is where malignant or cancer-causing cells are found in the tissues of the lip and oral cavity or mouth.

According to the National Cancer Registry Programme (NCRP), India has one of the greatest oral cancer rates in the world with an estimated 80,000 new cases diagnosed each year. A primary reason behind the high rate is due to chewing excessive amounts of a prepared mixture known as gutka which contains crushed betel nut, tobacco and an acacia extract called catechu.
