Diagnosis of Thalassemia

Thalassemia is often detected in children during pregnancy or soon after birth. Screening which involves blood tests for both mother and father is carried out to check if they have the thalassemia trait. Ideally screening should be done before 10 weeks of Pregnancy so that parents have time to consider options of going with further tests to confirm if the baby will be born with Thalassemia.
