Blood Cancers

Blood cancers are also called hematological malignancies. The condition usually occurs in the bone marrow, where the blood cells are produced. The types of blood cancers include leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. The other less common form of blood cancer is myeloproliferative neoplasms, such as polycythemia vera and myelofibrosis, aplastic anemia, and myelodysplastic syndromes.

The cancer cells interfere with the functioning of normal blood cells, such as preventing bleeding, fighting infections, and carrying oxygen. That said, in case of blood cancer, accurate diagnosis prior to treatment is crucial.
